Julie Meyer: coming into focus

Julie Meyer, a senior in history and secondary education, started her S&T career as an accomplished athlete in both volleyball and women’s basketball. Last season she focused solely on basketball. Her decision paid off as she helped lead the Lady Miners to a share of the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division title (the first since 1995-96 and the first one as a member of the GLVC) and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in school history.

Missouri S&T received the Great Lakes Valley Conference’s NCAA Division II Community Engagement Award of Excellence for the 2010-11 athletic season. The Miner program was cited for its Military Appreciation Day activities in October.

Gronek earns post-season honors

Zack Gronek, who set a school record with his 10 wins on the mound this season for the S&T baseball squad, was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association’s all-Midwest region second team for the 2011 season.

S&T’s baseball team also reached post-season play, capturing the GLVC West Division championship and landing a spot in the NCAA’s Midwest Region. At the regional tournament, the Miners — who posted a 30-19 record, the best in school history — opened play by shutting out defending national champion Southern Indiana behind a five-hitter from Zack Gronek, a senior in mechanical engineering. The lefthander earned run average, earning first-team All-GLVC and second-team all-region honors for the season.

Will Morrison: a man for two seasons

Will Morrison, a junior in business and management systems, had a stellar prep career as a two-sport athlete. He was the punter and kicker on the football team and an infielder on the baseball team. He was a second team all-state selection in football as both punter and kicker his junior season and was a first team all-state selection in baseball as a senior in 2008.

Miners conclude season in NCAA Tournament, ranked 13th in Divison II

During fall 2010, the Missouri S&T’s men’s soccer team won a share of the Great Lakes Valley Conference’s regular season championship, made its first-ever trip into the NCAA Division II Tournament and finished among the top-ranked teams in the final national rankings.
